10,000 Lakes Festival on Hiatus

The 10,000 Lakes Festival is off for 2010 and at this point there are no plans to revive it later.

“At the end of the day, not enough people bought tickets,” said Rand Levy, an owner and promoter of the festival that has been held at the Soo Pass Ranch outside of Detroit Lakes. Levy said part of the problem was the start-up of several competing festivals around the country that stole audience from the Minnesota venue.

You can still go to the festival Web site, 10KLF.com, to “relive memories, photos, etc.”

Happy 26th Phaniversary!!

We hear die hard phans were handing out fliers to remind the sold out crowd at MSG that it was the 26th anniversary of Phish's first concert and they should sing Happy Birthday before the 1st set in unison. That didn't seem to catch on... we guess they were just too excited for the band to start their first appearance back at the garden since NYEve '02.

Playing some old favorites like 'Sample in a Jar,' 'Golgi Apparatus' and 'Tweezer' and covering the Beatles 'A Day in the Life' to kick off the encore, the boys did not disappoint with a 4 hour show. The phans are sure excited for tonight, the 2nd of a 3 night run in NYC but clearly the anniversary celebration will have to hold off until next December.

There's an App for That

The Voodoo app was custom-designed for Louisiana's Voodoo Experience festival. Festival-goers with enabled phones could get info on a variety of festival elements by pointing their phone cameras at key parts of the festival grounds. For example, when pointed at the concert stages, you received lineups, schedules, artist profiles and links. Point your phone camera at a vendor and you get show menus and pricing. It could even show you the way to restrooms, ATMs, entrances and exits, medical sites and more. Check out a demo at Vimeo.

PlayBack

Brooklyn-based PlayBack Clothing has put a unique spin on eco-clothing -- literally. It's a complicated process, but essentially the owners go to recycling plants, buy used plastic, melt it down and re-spin the fiber into yarn to create tees and hoodie sweatshirts. U2, Phish and Wilco have signed on to use PlayBack's line for their own branded merchandise.

Luxe Wellies

If you've got some money to burn, you'll love these wellies. Jimmy Choo has joined forces with Hunter to create a $395 wellie, embossed with crocodile print and leopard print lining. Jimmy Choo president Tamara Mellon was apparently so impressed by the number of girls wearing wellies at last year’s mud-soaked music festivals, she wanted a piece of the action. To join the waiting list, email purchaseenquiry@jimmychoo.com.

Function and Fashion

It's a t-shirt...no, it's an album...no, it's a track list. Actually it's all in one. Check out the Music Tee which has album related art on the front, the track list on the back and a hang tag with a download code that allows you to get the entire album. Coming soon from The Music Tee is the new album from Monsters of Folk who was rockin' NY this past weekend!
Hedi Slimane's Rock Diary pics are awe-inspiring. Check out his super-cool photos from this year's Coachella festival.

Wellies

There is a world of wellies to choose from when looking for the proper footwear for mud-filled festivals. Hunter wellies are so popular amongst festival-goers, they've dedicated an area of their website to festival fashion. Keep an eye out for Hunter boots at the Gilt Groupe. They offer a great selection at great prices. My personal choice is Sporto. Whichever brand you choose, wellies are a MUST. Don't be fooled by weather forecasts. There is nothing worse than squishing through the festival fields in mud-soaked shoes.

Coachella

After a weekend in Palm Springs, I'm already thinking about Coachella 2010. Some great shots of the amazing styles displayed at last year's shows.

Ace is the Place

Just back from a weekend stay at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs. Fantastic. The rooms, food, art, style and especially the music by the pool. Loved it all. The PERFECT place to stay for Coachella 2010.

The Girls' Guide to Music Festivals

The Brits know a thing or two about music fests. Here's an insightful guide from Videojug.com. The narrator's accent makes it all the more fun to watch.

It's hard work being a girl, especially at a music festival. We show you how to look good and stay clean with the minimum of fuss so you can enjoy the music and still look sexy, just in case you bump into the lead singer of your favourite band! Festival fashion, quick hair fixes and more...have a foxy festival girls!

The White Rose of Texas

Lucky magazine posted a few photos from Austin City Limits, this past month. I love the white Chanel on Elizabeth from El Paso.

And We're Off....

For a while now, my go-to for style inspiration has been the fashion recaps of music festivals. However, it seemed to require a lot of googling to get to the best coverage. I was never able to find a one-stop-shop for all my festival fashion needs. Light bulb! That's when I decided I should try to do it myself, for everyone who might be scouring the web along with me for the chicest chicks (and a few dudes) from the festivals. And Chicival was born. Hope you enjoy!
